[Regis was still in the shower getting ready for bed when Cor slipped into his room. His mind was still spinning with the possibilities and (disastrous) implications of what had happened earlier. When his King finally returned from the bathroom he'd find Cor splayed out on his bed, boots and jacket tucked out of the way, face buried in one of the pillows.
He was always tense but now the tight hunch of his shoulders was even more obvious.Brow furrowed, jaw clenched, it was a miracle he hadn't gotten a cramp just from hos coiled he was.]
[Finding Cor doing something in his room, be it sitting, working, reading or doing one of the other million or so tasks he gives himself every day, is not that unusual. It is his friend's position more than his presence that is the surprise. For a moment, the king finds himself remembering a much younger man sprawling like that over a hotel bed--frustrated, tired, with far too much weighing on his young shoulders. There is a heavy weight on those shoulders again tonight. Perhaps, one heavier than Regis has seen there before.
Quietly, his bare feet carry him from the bathroom to the bed. Regis pulls his robe closer around himself and then settles on the bed at Cor's side. He doesn't say anything, though. Instead, he reaches over and sets to work trying to uncoil the tightly wound muscles in Cor's neck and shoulders, magic gathering below the skin of his hands warming them just enough to aid in the task. One of two things will happen. Either Cor will uncoil enough that he can finally sleep or he will eventually start talking. Until one of those things happens, Regis will wait patiently.]
[Whether Cor's uniform is fixed or not by now, surely he's not going to wear it to this little family reunion gathering, is he? It's practically a little party! Besides, he's accumulating an awful lot of Dora, with very little he actually spends it on.....
That's all the reason he needs to coax Cor to come out clothes shopping with him, really. .....Well, that and the way Regis had smiled when he'd brought it up. He might have had a little help convincing Cor. Just a tiny bit.
Now that they're in the store, though, the world is their Cloyster! So many choices! He had been about to ask them what formal attire was like in Lucis, but something has clearly already caught his eye; he makes a Beedrill-line for the display.]
[Regis sounds far too amused at this whole situation and it is just starting. Of course, once he realizes what Will is actually heading for, a bit of that amusement fades into concern.]
Will, not the yellow one. The dark blue one next to it.
[He catches a hold of Cor's sleeve to start moving his friend in Will's direction.]
Has he forgotten the royal color is black? Honestly, do we really look like men who can pull off yellow anything?
[They've only been in the new place for a couple of days, there hasn't been time to decorate much. So Cor's present for Regis is going to be even better for filling in some of the space in this strangely shaped room. There's already one armchair up here and Cor's brought another from one of the spare rooms up to shove into the corner. The chairs are angled slightly towards each other and then he settles a glossy new table between them.
There's a chess board laid into the tabletop, wood covered by a glass sheet for now. Then the pieces laid out across the board and Cor takes the liberty of making the first move, leaving it there waiting for Regis to notice it. Which is likely going to be a fair bit.
Cor hesitates for a moment... then perches on the side of Regis' bed, one hand going out to his King's shoulder to nudge him lightly. ]
[It is certainly no surprise to Cor that his initial attempt to wake Regis gets barely any response. The sleeping king merely rolls himself farther into his pillow and blanket. He may just be imagining it, but it seems like he has been sleeping better now that they have moved to the new house. Is it just the change in location? Maybe the fact that for once this place is not playing with their dreams? Either way, it makes Regis a little less eager than usual to leave bed.
Besides, it's soon to be his birthday. Shouldn't he be allowed to sleep in? It's not like he's asking for anything else, after all.]
[Regis pauses on his way up to his room when he hears the horn. Horns in general have become unfamiliar, at least here, so hearing one--especially this one--has him thinking that he has finally lost his mind after his trip home and then return to the city. Nonetheless, he makes his way over to the door, blinking in surprise once he opens it and see who and what is waiting for him.]
Noctis?
[Did he doze off in the back room? This is obviously a dream, right?]
[It is late, later than Cor usually lets Regis sleep in but it's also been an incredibly stressful couple of days. But Noctis is awake, emotionally battered as he is, he's awake. And hopefully here he can have some time to heal.
Which also means making sure Regis recuperates from the stress of the last few days, especially after what happened with Ardyn as well. Which means a little sleeping in, though that is harder for his King now than it was before his sleep. It also means finally sitting him down to tackle the mess that is his hair after these spring rains.
Regis sleeps like a rock, like all Lucis Caelums do. Cor can only hope he manages to be gentle enough not to wake him, scooping the other man up and carefully carrying him downstairs. The main bathroom is nice but the master bath in Cor's room is nothing short of extravagant. If at all possible he'd like to let Regis sleep until they're in his room, until he can cozy him into an armchair and carefully peel away his pajamas. Drowsy and unbothered is probably too much to ask for but he can hope.]
[For once Cor gets what he is hoping for--drowsy and unbothered. Regis stirs just enough to realize who is carrying him and then turns his head into Cor's chest and starts to doze again. Regis knows that there is no way Cor will do anything to harm him, so if he is not expected to use his own two feet to get somewhere, he will literally leave himself in his lion's very capable hands. It's only once he is settled into the chair and his friend begins to remove his pajamas that he starts to slowly blink himself awake.]
On the thirtieth of this month I will be hosting a dinner at my house. You are invited, as are any of those closest to you who also care for your granduncle.
I wish to invite Noct, but have heard he is having a difficult time and am uncertain if extending an invitation now would be unwelcome. What are your thoughts?
Cor has decided it is his job to pamper me since I have such a bad habit of ignoring my own health, so I'm doing rather better than usual right now. I hope you are also doing okay.
I would love to come, though I am a little torn as to how to answer your question. The father in me would like to keep Noctis away from Ardyn for now, because, while I don't know the details, it is clear that whatever time he was brought back from he had just finished a very terrible and painful encounter with Ardyn as he will become. Noctis is aware that this Ardyn is not to blame for any of that, but he is still struggling to separate the two.
Logically, though, I believe the wisest course of action may be to ask him and be understanding if he says no. If the prophecy has been set in motion in the time he came from, choice is something that will have been mostly taken from him. Giving him as many choices as possible here is the least we can do for him. I would hate for him to feel hurt that this choice was also taken from him even if his likely answer will be no.
If nothing else, asking him will let him know that Ardyn's birthday is coming up. I certainly did not know of it, so I am willing to wager he doesn't know either. Even if he feels he cannot attend, he may wish to do something else for Ardyn.
[Regis is slightly confused at the initial text until the clarifying one follows. After that, he is both excited for her and still a little confused. After losing someone so close to her, who could she be asking such a question to?
Oh, unless..]
Hello Era,
I am doing well at the moment, and if that question is anything to go by, it seems you are doing well too. I think my best piece of advice is to just be honest with your feelings and to think of the person who you are proposing to. It doesn't have to be a big event or production. As long as you keep both of you in mind, it will still have impact even if all you do is hand them the ring.
This is wonderful news, though I suspect from the warning in your email, I need to say that with a bit of caution. I take it he does not remember being here and is possibly from a different point than the one who was here before?
[When Regis answers, the soft clicking of glass in the background may give Nyx a hint that instead of being home, he is working at Valeo. Of course, being the owner of a shop means that he can step away from work when needed. That is why he doesn't seem bothered at all to hear Nyx's voice on the other side of the line.]
Hello! Of course, I have a moment. How can I help you?
[ After this thread ends, Pyra takes Noctis back with her to her place to rest, calling Regis over to help. She whos him to their room so the Father might tend to his son in private. By the time Noctis is rested and settled, the sun has set, and a fine dust of white snow coats the roads and roofs outside.
When Regis finally emerges from their room, she stands from the couch, fingers twining together nervously as she awaits whatever news he brings. ]
Is he... stable?
[ As for Pyra herself, she's expended a great deal of power. Normally any wounds would have healed by now, but at present a few scrapes upon her chest, cheek, and arm remain open to.... not flesh, not blood, but a churning, burning power. ]
[Later, when Regis has a chance to go over everything, he will be glad that Pyra took Noctis back to their home before contacting him. He and Cor had picked Valeo's location, in part, because of its closeness to the house. Noctis' house is farther away and that gives Regis the time he needs to take control and push down the worries of a father so that the king and master of their family's unique powers can focus on doing what needs to be done.]
He is. Right now, he's in what we call "stasis." It's a deeply exhausted state that occurs when we have pushed our magic to its limits and beyond. I've given him some of my own energy to help jump start his recovery process, but right now the best thing for him to do is rest. Even with the energy I gave him, it will take a good deal of time for his stores to replenish.
[Of course, now that the doing is done, Regis is allowed to feel a bit more of that worry...or perhaps feel the need to fuss might be more accurate since he now knows Noctis will be okay. Pyra, on the other hand...
He's not sure what that burning energy is, but he's never seen it before and that makes him concerned.]
Are you injured? I have some potions with me if you need them.
Would I be able to host a small gathering at your home on the fifteenth of next month? Hythlo will be turning one year old and I would like to surprise him. ☆ヾ(*´・∀・)ノヾ(・∀・`*)ノ☆
I am doing well and I hope you are too. Of course, you can use the house. There has not been much cause to celebrate here recently. This is a perfect chance to fix that.
I have given it a great deal of consideration and have decided that, while appreciated more than I can say, I cannot keep the name you gifted me. I do not care for you any less, but I believe it is for the best.
I would ask that you not let this impact Hythlo, if possible. My failings should not reflect upon him.
LOL Sadly, most of those who used to contact him here are gone now. :-(
Tony had really been enjoying several of his new friendships here in Havenwell. The most significant one being with Reggie. It was sort of ironic that he got along so well with the king when Tony could be terribly irreverent to people of class and he was so unsure of where he stood with Noctis. However, that hadn't stopped them so far.
Today, the newcomer had more or less invited himself over for lunch with the promise that no 'damn Poke-things' would be at the house. To compensate, he was bringing dessert (not chocolate, he promised) and some kind of lightly sweetened, cherry soda he'd made. He showed up ten minutes early, hoping the method he used for carbonation would last.
Considering the last time Regis tried to cook anything besides hot chocolate--and no one wants that right now--he nearly destroyed the kitchen, he is not going to be upset by anyone dropping by with food. Especially, if those foods happen to fall on the sweet side of things.
He is just finishing some setting up in the back room when Tony arrives. The view will be better in a few months once Spring really has set in, but it's still one of his favorite rooms in the house.
With one last look to make sure none of the Pokemon are around--all were suppose to be off visiting friends of Will's--Regis goes to meet Tony with a smile on his face.
[After his fight with Noct, Gladio was true to his word and took himself to Valeo to fetch himself a potion and ask about those bath salts and things he remembered Regis talking about.
Out of habit, he knocked before he pushed open the door and stepped inside. It wasn't until he was through the door that he realised that there probably hadn't been a need to knock on the door of a shop... He put it down to the fact he was tired.
And he definitely looked tired. A few cuts and spots of blood having bled through his shirt and his right arm was held close around his middle.]
Anyone home?
Edited (Just noticed the other thread oops... Regis is busy today!) 2021-03-12 14:39 (UTC)
He "almost" has an actual social life again...for all of one day!
[It was a fair bet that if Regis wasn't at home and wasn't at the cafe, he was at the shop no matter if it was actually open or not. There were always small tasks to be done and those were perfect for keeping his hands busy while his mind was focused on other things. Right now, it was focused on Tony and their conversation earlier in the day. He'd realized quite quickly that the man's loud, brash, and sometimes arrogant attitude was a cover for a lot of pain and guilt that twisted just below the surface, but Regis had still not expected to learn what he had that day. And all because some cosmic joker decided to have the ring Cor had made for him look so much like the one Tony had made for his fiance.
Considering his mind is so distant, it takes Regis just a moment longer than usual to turn when he hears someone come in. A welcome is half out of his mouth when he hears Gladio's voice, and more urgently, sees the shape the young man is in.
Regis doesn't take the time to answer the Shield's question. Instead, he gathers several bottles into his arms--with only a second's pause to make sure that there isn't a fancy purple bottle among them--and then comes around the counter, waving Gladio to a nearby chair.
There is no need to ask if the young man is okay, so Regis jumps straight to the next question that comes to mind.]
[Of course, he has time for her. She's never a bother, but at the moment, he is just glad she is reaching out to him again as opposed to pushing him away. He's not going to argue about it.]
What is it you need advice on? It sounds as if it is a complicated matter if no other can help you with it. I can't guarantee I have the answer, but I will do my best to aid you.
[Gladio was in high spirits as he approached Regis' home. He'd already paid a visit to Prya and the others yesterday, his last port of call was to Regis.
In his hands he carried a plastic container, inside of which where a dozen triple chocolate, chocolate chip cookies and six white chocolate and blueberry muffins. The muffins where a first for him and they'd come out tasting pretty good. Good enough he was happy to share them with Pyra and now with Regis.
He was all grins as he approached the door and lifted a hand to knock. A step back and he waited with the hope the King was home and he wouldn't have to go running all over Havenwell looking for the guy.]
[Fortunately for Gladio, Regis is at home and not at the one other place he usually spends time--the shop. Or maybe he might be at the cafe or shopping for new supplies for Valeo or...
Okay, so now that it is getting warm again, he is out a little more often, but that doesn't matter because today he is home to answer the door.
When he sees who is there, a smile crosses his face.]
Greetings Gladio! It's good to see you. Would you like to come in?
[Regis had been going to suggest they just drink at his place, but that would probably lead to him drinking much more than he should. At least if they go to the cafe, petting the cats will help him calm down as well.
Plus, he will make sure he doesn't drink more than he should. That need to keep his senses about himself in public is still strong, no matter how upset he is.]
I would like to purchase as many of your most potent healing potions as you can supply by this time next month.
I am not sure what effect(s) they may provide, but my scales have a similar composition to bone. If they would help to increase the efficacy of the potions I will gladly part with some of my shed, and donate what is left to Valeo if they would prove useful in some way.
If you require flasks I can have some made to the proper specifications. Likewise, if there are any other supplies you need I can provide whatever is required.
If you are unable to fulfill my request for whatever reason, I would greatly appreciate being informed as soon as possible so I may adjust my plans accordingly.
Payment will be 150% of your base fee, if that is acceptable.
[The arrival of this text startles Regis. Considering how their last conversation ended, Regis wasn't expecting to hear from her again anytime soon. Of course, whatever she is planning apparently is dangerous. Why else request so many potions? He can't say he is sorry she has reached out, even if he is still upset with her. The professional and distant manner of the email doesn't help any.
Is he no more than a supplier to her now?]
Greetings,
Stronger potions and elixirs take more time and energy than a basic potion does, so I am afraid I can only offer approximately 15 of each in that time frame. Fortunately, they can be supplemented with weaker potions if necessary. There is no penalty to chain using them if needed. I am not sure if it is the same on your world or not, but potions help heal the body, while elixirs help restore magical energy.
Generally, I do not use additives in my potions, though, if the potions are to be used on you and not others, then including your scales when I make the potions will likely help attune the potion to you. Even if our worlds are linked, the magic of Eos is still different from that of your world. Anything that can be done to make the potions more effective, is a benefit we cannot underestimate.
The flasks are not necessary as I have my own supply, but I am afraid I will need to accept payment for the work. Due to the extra time and energy required for this kind of order, I will not be able to make anything to resupply the shop during the time I am working on your order.
Potions and elixirs can be used in two ways if this has not been explained to you. You may drink them from the bottle or simply crush the bottle in your hand. The container is enchanted during the creation process to do no harm. Both methods are equally effective.
I do not know what you are planning, but I wish you luck in your endeavor. Please do not risk more than you stand to gain.
[What...what is this? Well, besides adorable that is! It's hard not to just warp straight over to Tony's place, but Regis must resist. He can't seem too charmed. Tony will be too proud of himself!]
Well, hello there Miss Kitty. Can kittens have strawberries and cream? You should ask your tall dad. The short one is biased.
I stumbled across a number of photographs you may enjoy. I will attach them here.
[ There are a more than a handful of pictures of Noct and Kiyomi as young children with their respective chocobos. The initial photo is clearly of Noct trying to explain to her how it works—evidently with success given that she has her face covered by her hands in the next.
As the photos progress she becomes less wary and shy of it, until the final one where she has removed the scarf obscuring her head and pulls a silly face at the camera alongside Noct.
A short video clip is included among the photos, of Kiyomi trying to take a photograph—
"No, that's video!" "What's 'video'?"
By the look on Noct's face he's gotten used to bestowing upon her what is obviously the most basic bits of knowledge any kid should have (even if he finds it exasperating). ]
Those are all the ones I could find with Noct in them. Should I happen across any more I will be sure to send them to you as well, if you would like.
[It takes Regis a little while to respond for two reasons. One, he's honestly a little surprised--but also happy--to hear from her so suddenly. The second, and more important reason, is that he is enjoying looking at the pictures so much.
Hello my dear!
I'm glad to hear from you and to see what wonderful gifts you bring! It looks like the two of you are having a great time. I spent some time small myself during the last few weeks, but I don't think I had nearly as much fun as you two did.
I would love to see whatever other pictures you find whether they have Noctis in them or not.
[ she attaches a totally adorable-and-not-creepy-af picture of her Carbuncle, as well as a short video clip of it sitting in front of her, blinking at her slowly and affectionately, though each set of eyes blinks at a different pace.
she is v proud of her eldritch abomination carbuncle. 🥰
(also she is v drunk, thus the courage to finally summon her eldritch abomination creation) ]
[Era, you are so lucky he has gotten used to a weaponless tonberry around his house. "Creepy" Carbuncle is not creepy to him in the slightest after that.
He is a little thrown by the extra eyes, but can't help but approve of the colors. Still, first thing's first. He must be a dad.]
Your new friend is as adorable as you are, but are you drunk, my dear? Do you need someone to see you and your friend home?
I woke up a few days ago. There is a lot so I will put it in point form.
• I went to Garlemald • then the moon • defeated Zodiark • accidentally brought about the Final Days again • went to the Unsundered world • defeated Mother • flew to the edge of the universe • saved the universe • I'm free to be an adventurer again • my dog's name is Argos (sorry he is rude) • thank you for the blankets? • my horn grew back
[The text's arrival fills Regis with both joy and pain. Just as he had lived through many life changing events during his last sleep, she has been through even more, and it is very hard to judge how she is doing with the abbreviated explanation.
At least, she still has some of her humor about her. The note about the dog can't help but make him smile.]
Do you have any animal companions that aren't rude?
