He was Mother's. She made him before she became Hydaelyn, and he was her beloved familiar.

He likes people who have proven their worth via combat with his mistress. It turns out he liked me because in his past and my future, Mother challenged me to a spar.

She was so beautiful, loving, and powerful. She was my beloved mother, and I was her brave little spark. The stories I told her of my adventures were what kept her filled with hope for all those long, lonely millennia.

I wish I could have told her what she meant to me.

[Era speaks of her mother so fondly, and yet one of her bullet points includes defeating her. What twisted Fate had brought that about? Should he ask or just give her more time to process all that happened? Astrals know, he had needed time to process after he came back.

Perhaps, he will leave that discussion for a later time just to be safe.]

Have you considered writing her a letter expressing all you wish to say and then letting it free to the wind? I would suggest water, but it is not as common here as it is back in Insomnia. Some people burn the letters and let the smoke carry their words. The idea is to turn the physical intangible so it may be carried to wherever the person you wish to speak to is in life or death.

There is nothing left of her now save for the world she loved with all of her being. I will never hear her voice, feel her presence, or know her thoughts again, but I will keep her safe in my memories and do my best to protect all that she held so dear.

Ah, but if you hold those memories of her inside of you, doesn't that mean part of her is still with you? I have always considered the memories I have of others a small piece of them that lives within me for as long as I live.

[And memories shared with others of a person who is no longer living allows them to live within that person as well. In hindsight, Regis can't understand why he didn't apply this more to his own son and the memories of his mother. At least here, he can make up for that failing.]
