CHARACTER INFO

❥ Name: Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII
❥ Canon: Final Fantasy XV

❥ Fandom OC Approval: N/A

❥ History: His Wiki, The Wiki for 'Episode Ardyn', & The Wiki for 'A King's Tale'

❥ Personality:

Special Note: FFXV was created as a expansive universe which means that information on the events and characters is spread out across multiple kinds of media from the game itself, to a movie, VR platform, novels, artbooks etc. As a result, piecing together some parts of a character's personality/life can be difficult. This is the case for Regis' early life, though the release of 'Episode Ardyn' has helped cement a great deal of his youth. Even with this, I still have to draw from several sources to round out his character, so if there is something you need more examples of/better sourcing for, please let me know.

Dutiful/Controlled:

Born as the 113th of his line, a lot is placed upon Regis' shoulders from the very beginning. The unsettled status of Eos' political climate aside, the Lucis Caelum line has been tasked from their very beginnings with the protection of the Crystal until the day comes for the Prophecy to be fulfilled. They are allowed to make use of the Crystal's magic, but considering that magic eats away at their very lives, it has to be handled with care and control lest they burn themselves out too quickly. Fortunately, control is something that always has come naturally to Regis, even when cruelly goaded. Despite how quickly Ardyn is cutting down both the Crownsguard and the Royal Guard during his attack in 'Episode Ardyn,' Regis remains calm, taking in updates from those who have them and planning how to stop the rampage. It is his duty to protect both his people and the Crystal, and he cannot do that if he lets his emotions get the best of him. It is only once Ardyn has defeated him that we see his mask crack completely as he laments the fact that he has failed at this very critical task.

Protective/Self-Sacrificing:

As mentioned above, the magic Lucian royals wield comes with a heavy price. Even so, Regis doesn't hesitate to take up the mantle of king when his father dies. He puts on the ring and lets the burden of powering the Wall fall upon on his shoulders. It doesn't matter the drain will cause him to age more quickly than he should or that it shortens his life. It doesn't matter that he just saw the very same power kill his father. The Wall is needed to protect Insomnia and Lucis' people from both Niflheim's attacks and the growing daemon threat, and so he will see it remain standing no matter the cost to himself. This is a task he takes up willingly, just as he willingly goes out alone to face Ardyn who is rampaging through the city with the god of fire under his control. With Imperial forces attacking outside the Wall and Ardyn attacking from within, Regis is their last defense and he plans to stand as that last line of defense without fail no matter what the cost to himself.

Idealistic/Optimism:

Later in life, Regis will lose much of his optimistic and idealistic nature, both things all but ground out of him by tragedy after tragedy--his wife's early death, his son being proclaimed the Chosen King, the Marilith attack that nearly kills Noctis, the invasion of Tenebrae and all that comes with it--but at this canon point, those two traits are still strong within him. He doesn't question that he will be able to stop Ardyn because he has to in order to keep his people safe. There is no other acceptable outcome. He shows this very same mindset in the story he tells about one of his adventures to Noctis in "A King's Tale." Mysterious crystals, overwhelming numbers of monsters, and even a giant, sassy talking octopus daemon don't stop he and his retinue. They may not know the true nature of the threat or even the full powers of the daemons involved, but they are confident in their ability to deal with whatever it is. Of course, Regis is telling this to Noctis as a bedtime story and has full permission to exaggerate, but it is heavily implied in FFXV: Comrades that the adventure and battle with Ultros (said sassy talking octopus daemon) did happen in some form, an implication backed up by Ultros' later appearance in Kingsglaive.

Reckless/Mischievous:

Even with all the holes in the FFXV storyline, we know of two times Regis wrecked/seriously damaged the Regalia while driving it--first when he and his retinue were setting out on their road trip, and second when he heard that his wife had gone into labor. Eventually, he will learn to take more care, but at this point there are still times when his excitement gets the best of him, despite all of his self-control. As a result, he does not do things as carefully as he should, leading to damaged vehicles, damaged buildings, and friends who will never let him touch a steering wheel again. It's for his own safety, of course.

'A King's Tale' also shows us that Regis was fond of bad jokes and teasing his friends from a young age as he tells of jokes made between them, but also trades witty remarks with Noctis when his son comments on the story. (Did you die? I'm here telling the story, aren't I?) He, for better or worse, was a master of the 'dad joke' long before he ever became one.

VS Elder Self in Kingsglaive:

Most of what we see of Regis comes at the beginning of FFXV, and more importantly, Kingsglaive as it tells the story of the Fall of Insomnia and his death. While the first two sets of traits I mention above are still very easy to see in Regis at this time (he is now 50, instead of a youthful 28), the last two sets of traits are mostly gone, worn away by the harsh realities and losses he's had to face over the years. He has become a patient, observant, and knowledgeable king, one who recognizes quickly that the treaty signing is nothing but a trap and does his best to protect both his people and his loved ones from what is to come. He does this without thought of himself, wondering only briefly with Clarus the night before if people will one day understand why they are doing what they are. However, there is no place for idealism in his plans now. He knows he won't survive the trap being sprung, but he faces his coming death with his head held high, willing to do what he must so that the future can be passed to those who deserve to see it. This self-sacrificial, protective final act shows that despite the difference the years have made, the young king who once fought a giant daemon octopus to protect his people is very much the same king who faces down General Glauca and the Empire, only now said king is fighting to protect more than just his people or just his son; he is fighting to give all of Eos a chance to see the dawn arrive once more.

❥ Abilities: (When even bullet points don't make it all that much shorter...)

Magical:

Warping/Phasing: Warping is a short-range teleportational ability that allows the user to follow after a thrown object (often a weapon). The ability works on line of sight and doesn't allow passage through a solid object. Phasing allows a person to avoid an attack by 'sidestepping' it, leaving an after image behind. Thanks to 'Episode Ardyn' we know that Regis was very skilled with both abilities in his youth.

Magic - Curative Creation: Thanks to the magic granted to him, Regis is able to turn drinks into various curative potions. The strength and type of curative depends upon the amount of magic put into it. The type of drink also has some impact on the resulting potion, with drinks like tea, juice, and energy drinks being commonly used while things like water and alcohol are avoided.

Magic - Elemental: Regis' magical skills also include being able to summon powerful lightning, fire and frost spells. Unlike Noctis, he isn't shown as needing to store the spells in flasks before use nor does he need to recharge his power from nodes. The draw back is that the magic drains his life and repeated use of the stronger spells will very quickly exhaust him.

From what we see in Kingsglaive, Regis seems to favor using fire and lightning spells over frost spells.

Magic - Protective: Regis is very skilled at creating protective shields that can block both physical and magical attacks. These shields can withstand a great deal of force from either type of attack. He can create various shapes and sizes of shields from those meant to protect just himself, to those large enough to protect a whole group, and even those large enough to completely divide a room as shown when he uses one to separate himself and General Glauca from Nyx Ulric and Lady Lunafreya. These barriers can be maintained while he is using other magic if necessary and also while he is mortally wounded as shown by how long the dividing barrier he put up lasted even after he took the fatal blow from Glacua's sword.

While Regis never uses the invisibility spell himself, the members of the Glaive are shown using it in battle. As their magic comes from Regis himself, it is safe to assume this is a spell he has access to, though he would likely see it as too dishonorable to be used in fair combat.

Armiger/Royal Arms: Armiger (storage space): As a storage space, the Armiger is basically Eos' version of hammerspace. While it can't hold anything living due to the fact all that goes into it enters stasis, almost anything else can be stored up to a reasonable size. It also serves as storage for the Royal Arms that each of Lucis' kings gather and make use of. While Regis is the 113th king of the line, there are only a few whose locations are still known. These weapons can only be wielded and properly used by the royal family. Summoned together the Royal Arms are used in tandem to attack. This attack is also referred to as the Armiger.

See Extras section for nerfs/limitations on the Armiger.

Ring of the Lucii: While in his possession, the Ring of the Lucii gives Regis access to the following spells in addition to the magic he can already use:
  • Death: Drains an enemy's health, slows them, and if fully applied, can instantly KO them and recover health for the wielder.
  • Holy: Everyone's favorite top-tier light spell.
  • Alterna: Tears open the very fabric of reality in order to send an enemy on a one way trip to somewhere not here.
The Ring of the Lucii is so named because it houses the spirits of the past rulers of Lucis. Aside from when they leave the ring to help Noctis fulfill the Prophecy at the end of the game, there is one time that we see one of them leave the ring and that is when Somnus answers Ardyn's challenge once Regis has been knocked unconscious during 'Episode Ardyn.' It is assumed this is something that would only happen in extreme life or death situations, as had Somnus not answered, Ardyn would have killed Regis and ended the line before the Chosen King could be born.

In Kingsglaive, Nyx Ulric is shown conversing with the Kings of Yore once he puts on the ring which backs the idea that those wearing the ring can seek wisdom or assistance from them with the Lucii being more or less willing to cooperate depending on how much right the person has to wear the ring.

Finally, should someone attempt to wear the ring who doesn't have a blood link to the Lucian royal line and who doesn't successfully bargain with the Lucii to use their power, they will find themselves burned to a crisped very quickly and painfully. Even those who bargain successfully do not walk away without heavy cost. Ignis Scientia lost his vision in exchange for the use of the ring's power, and Nyx Ulric traded his life a few hours after he made his own deal with the Lucii.

Needless to say, that ring will not be leaving Regis' hand if he has any say in the matter!

See Extras section for nerfs/limitations on the Ring of the Lucii.

Ability Sharing: Should he choose to, Regis can share several of his abilities with others including allowing their use of his elemental and protective magics, warping, and access to the Armiger as a storage space. The more people he shares with, though, the more strain is put on his body.

Mundane:
  • Royal Upbringing
  • Political Training (Man's got a KILLER poker face, when he's not rolling his eyes in exasperation.)
  • Scholarship - with a focus on Lucian history and the prophecy.
  • Languages - he knows quite a few not just because of his position, but because he genuinely enjoys learning them and the cultures associated with them. (Head canon based on his position and the fact that he shows interest in even the smallest parts of his kingdom. For example, when Galahd--a small set of islands--was attacked by the Empire, not only did he send soldiers to fight, he himself went as part of the fighting force.)
  • Combat Experience
  • Weapon's Training - various including swords, spears, and shields.
  • Basic Field First Aid - because sometimes you still need it even when you can make your own curatives.

❥ Extras:

Would you like your characters abilities nerfed? What would you like them to lose or how will it be cut down?
  • Armiger (Storage): Per discussion on the FAQ, it is limited to 10 slots on arrival, can only hold non-organic items, and will be empty of all Royal Arms.
  • Ring of the Lucii: Honestly, I have no idea why he would be using them in this game, so why don't we just have the Death and Alterna spells stripped off the ring?
  • Anything else? If you feel any of the rest of his abilities are game-breaking enough to need limitation/nerfing, please let me know as I have no issue limiting them.

Did your character bring anything along (limit 3 items) with them?
  1. The Ring of the Lucii (magical, weapon)
  2. The Sword of the Father (weapon, Non-Royal Arms version. It's just his favored sword at this canon point, no magical abilities aside from what he channels through it.)
  3. 1 Hi-Elixir (magical. Restores full HP & full MP, or more accurately for the game setting, restores all wounds aside from those that would be fatal and restores all magical energy)

Which god will they choose to support?
Ainea, please!
