Canon Update: March 2020

❥ Player Name: Neko Sandy
❥ Character Name: Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII | [personal profile] kingkingcxiii
❥ Original Canon Point: Episode Ardyn (End)
❥ Updated Canon Point: Episode Ignis (Flashback) - The scene where Ignis accepts his appointment as Noctis' Advisor. ME 738. He is now 33 years old (as I headcanon his birth date at the beginning of the year).

❥ Updated History:

Canon Events:

  • ME 735: Regis and Aulea finally welcome their first child, Noctis, into the world. Tragically, Aulea will die while Noctis is still an infant leaving Regis to handle running a kingdom at war and raising a child by himself.
  • ME 736: Prompto is freed from the Magitek factory where he was being experimented on and brought to Insomnia.
  • ME 738: Regis introduces Noctis and Ignis for the first time. Ignis is appointed as Noctis' Advisor.

Events Extrapolated from Canon/Headcanon:

  • Founder's Day Aftermath: Almost immediately, Regis and his people begin to slant the truth of what happened during the attack, blaming it heavily on Ifrit and Niflheim using the Astral as a weapon against them. All mentions of the mysterious man (Ardyn) are covered up. Knowing that the mysterious man was attempting to get Somnus' attention, Regis will reach out to his ancestor through the Ring and attempt to get some answers. While Somnus will confirm taking action to save kingdom and king, he will give little other information, neglecting to explain who Ardyn was and that it was Bahamut who ended things that day, not himself.
  • Reestablishing the Guard: With so much of the Royal Guard wiped out, Regis begins creating plans for what will become the Kingsglave and the Crownsguard, though the plans for the Kingsglaive will not be fully implemented until after he finds out about Noctis being Chosen several years down the road.
  • Operation...Chocoboy?!?: Shortly before Aulea's passing, Cor Leonis will be deployed on a solo and highly top secret mission to infiltrate labs in Niflheim to look for evidence of rumored human experimentation and cloning going on in their enemy country. He will return several months later with more proof than they could ever want in the form of the small blonde infant who will come to be known as Prompto.
  • Aulea's Death: When Aulea passes, Regis confines himself to his room for three days during which he will see no one and barely eats. After that, he returns to his duties, emotions carefully hidden behind the mask of 'king.' This is a pattern that will repeat itself only one more time, years later when he finds out Noctis is the Chosen King, and more importantly, what that means.
  • Life as a Single Parent and King: At first, people attempt to give Regis time to be with his child, but war waits for no one, not even a king. He will miss a great many of Noctis' firsts, but that doesn't stop him from spending many a sleepless night rocking or humming to Noctis when the boy is awake and can't get back to sleep. Never singing though. He doesn't want to give the poor boy nightmares.
  • Life as a Widower and King: The council traditionalists wait only a 'respectful mourning' time before subtly beginning to hint that Regis should remarry. When the hints become something less subtle, he puts his foot down, saying that he hardly has time for his own son alongside ruling the country. What makes them think he is going to doom another queen to die in an empty bed? No one dares bring up the question again after that.
  • Ignis' Appointment: Regis' intent behind appointing Ignis so young is not for him to begin fulfilling his role right away, but instead he hopes that the early introduction will allow Noctis and Ignis to form a strong bond. With the kingdom demanding more and more of his time and Aulea gone, Noctis needs someone he can trust and rely on. Regis hopes that Ignis will be that person.

All events in this section that mention castmates have been discussed with them. If you need any approvals, please let me know.

❥ Updated Personality:

The biggest change to Regis' personality during these few years can best described as the 'dimming' of a once bright, lively, and optimistic soul. He will be less quick to act and more willing to observe, less likely to jump into battle and more realistic in his views of the world. His wife's death might be the biggest factor in this change, but there are several other factors that also play into making this a permanent change instead of just a temporary low.

  • Guilt: With all the power given to him, including the power to create curatives that can bring people back from death itself, Regis was still unable to do anything to prevent his wife from slipping away. Along with this guilt comes a powerful sense of helplessness. If he could not save the person he loved the most, how was he going to keep his son and his country safe?
  • Broken Heart: Regis' love for his wife was so strong that during the three days he spends in isolation, it could be said that the man he once was died as well, leaving only the king and the father behind--one to care for their country and one to care for their son. The irony in this was that Regis used a lot of the lessons he refused to learn from his father in his youth in order to hid how broken he felt he was after Aulea's death.
  • Father, in absentia: No matter how much Regis tried to prepare himself for missing parts of Noctis' life because he had to be 'king' instead of 'father,' nothing could have prepared him for the true extent of it, especially as the war started to get worse. Noctis was his greatest love after his wife and his last link to her. To have to give up so much of his role as father not only started to cut him off from another part of himself, but also threatened to cut him off from her all over again. Yet, to give his son a chance at a future at all, Regis had no choice but to focus as much of his energy on the war and the kingdom as he could.

When he returns, Regis will still smile and joke, but the observant will realize quickly the smiles never quite reach his eyes anymore and the jokes no longer have the energy they once did. His court mask has become a true mask now, the first part of the wall of calm, distance, and control that his elder self was so well-known for.

A king pushes onward always, accepting the consequences and never looking back...not even when he is leaving parts of himself behind as he makes his way forward.

❥ Updated Abilities:

Regis' abilities will stay the same aside from a few slight changes:

  • Instead of relying on magic and melee in combat equally, he will begin to lean more toward just using magic, this includes using magic to hold weapons instead of holding them himself. Primary offensive spells remain fire and lightning while he continues to use his shielding abilities for defense.
  • Regis is very aware that his body is starting to grow tired more quickly. He is also uncomfortably aware that he would not be able to withstand the battle he had with Ardyn only a few years ago. As a result, he will subtly begin to plan actions and encounters to conserve his energy for when he really needs it.
  • His knee has occasionally started to ache/be stiff after long periods of activity or inactivity. This is only minor at the moment and something others have yet to notice.

❥ Other:

Physical Changes:

  • Minor changes to his raiment as shown here, most notably the addition of a full cape to it.
  • His face has lost the youthful roundness it once had. In fact, his high cheekbones almost make his cheeks look a little gaunt, something that will increase as he ages and the Crystal drains more of his life.
  • His beard is fuller, though still not as much as it will be in his older years.
  • He is no longer wearing his wedding ring. In its place is the Ring of the Lucii which used to be on the middle finger of his right hand. His ring (and Aulea's) are now kept in a velvet box in the Armiger.
